Getting Married Before You Are Settled

June 22nd, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Peter Portero Young people often live off of their emotions alone. The reason many high school sweethearts get married right out of high school is because they are thinking with their hearts and not their heads. While nothing is impossible, it can be extremely difficult to get married before you are settled, both financially and socially. If you marry too young, you may find yourself living in a poor financial state and you may not be mature enough to handle such a commitment. When your parents tell you that marriage is a difficult thing, you should listen. When you move out and get married, you should be in the career that you desire. It makes it much easier if you already have a job and are finished with your schooling before you get married. When you have two students who are married it can be difficult to make ends meet. If you are not emotionally and socially settled before getting married, you could find yourself restless in your relationship. You may seek out other friends and want to party all night, without your spouse. You need to have all of this type of behavior out of your system and be settled before getting married. The Diet Industry Doesn’t Care If You Lose Weight!

June 19th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Jason Johns In the Western cultures, we are bombarded by advert after advert promoting this healthy eating food, or this gym, or that celebritys new fitness video / diet program / recipe book / miracle weight loss program. The images are everywhere, together with a press that extols the virtues of being so thin you look ill. “Weight Loss Help” is at hand, bleats the diet industry, “Just buy our product” … but does the diet industry have your best interests at heart? The simple answer is a highly resounding NO, they do not. They have only one interest, and that is money. Money to make profits, to pay their shareholders. The diet industry has minimal interest in you losing weight and ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in you keeping the weight off. Just think about it. If people actually lost weight using their products and kept it off, what would happen to their profits and business? It would be decimated! The diet industry needs dieters to keep buying and consuming their products so they can make fat profits to pay their shareholders with. The real problem with the diet industry is that in order to make maximum profits they need to cut their costs down to a bare minimum. And they do this by padding out food with fillers and cheap components. One of the first things to go in diet products is sugar. Refined sugars are bad for us, which is perfectly true, they are. However, instead of putting in a decent, healthy alternative (such as Stevia) the diet industries put in artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame. Now, you may say, “But it’s not sugar so it’s healthier” or “It’s FDA approved” or any other pre-programmed component. Let me tell you what aspartame is - it’s a neuro-toxin, plain and simple. To make this even easier to understand - it kills your brain! It’s dangerous! Aspartame is already banned in numerous countries with many more considering a ban, yet it still appears in diet foods particularly in the USA and UK. Even worse, aspartame will actually sabotage your diet as it seems to make people crave carbohydrates. If you are dieting and are after weight loss help then avoid aspartame. One of the big diet industry fillers is wheat. The diet industry love padding out food with wheat protein because it is cheap! And cheap means more profit! An awful lot of people have a wheat intolerance to some degree, and this tends to cause bloating and the feeling of being fat, which doesn’t help your diet and doesn’t help you feel any thinner. So all in all, the diet industry doesn’t have your best interests at heart. They want to you stay miserable and fat because then you contribute more to their profits! What can you do to get weight loss help? Learn about eating a healthy, balanced diet and you will find that you do not need to rely on the diet industry’s weight loss products, but can eat a much healthier diet much cheaper that is much more effective in helping you to lose weight. Don’t believe a word I am saying here about these fillers, please, I implore you. Go do your research online and see the truth for yourself as you get your weight loss help. Woman Washes Jesus Feet with Tears, Alabaster Flask of Fragrant Oil Dramatized Story Luke 7: 36-50

June 15th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Matthew Robert Payne She was dressed in her most expensive and most treasured gift. Her hair was set up and held in place with clips and fashioned to look exquisite, her skin was gleaming and her whole body smelled like a delight and good enough to eat and still she was nervous. She sat sipping her wine in the bazaar and the people who knew her paid their respect by bowing their heads and she drank the wine slowly but she could not stop her hands from shaking. Her nerves were shot to pieces, her stomach was in knots and her mind was screaming for her not to go ahead with the meeting but her heart was not letting her off. He was such an important man and everything that normally gave her power had not worked its spell on him. He was the first red blooded male that had not been swayed by her beauty and had not been made weak at the knees from a glance and a smile from her. Sure hed smiled at her when she smiled at him, but there was no attraction in his eyes, their was no lust in his gaze, it was pure love she saw in him and a love like her father used to give her in his gaze as a child. Shed watched this Rabbi from the moment hed come to her town. The people were all talking about him and he possessed the power that all of Israel had been waiting for. They were whispering that he was the man that would free them from the slavery and tyranny of the Romans and yet she wasnt a lady that liked to hear second hand news. From the day she grew breasts to this day she had never met a man who didnt fall weak into the fascination of her and have thoughts of possessing her naked in their own bed chambers and for many years she had used her power over mortals to establish her fortune. These powerful men that bought her time were never powerful enough to resist her charms and for those who couldnt afford her or as in the Pharisees case their own reputations prevented them from being seen with her, they all still lusted after her and manipulated nearly all men with her charms. No man had ever broken her since she was a child and no man had fully seen her vulnerable because her power and her intelligence, good humor and her beauty always won the most sincere and devoted husbands heart away from his beloveds even if it was just a glance every time she passed by. She was the bad companion of many men, but no man owned her and no money in the world could buy her and she used men and their wealth and even their sexual prowess simply to feed her own indulgent lifestyle. She was the secret desire of all men in her town and she was the envy of many women if they could admit it to themselves. Oh the ladies liked to think they would not sell their bodies and many of the devout women in the town would never do that, but few of the women in town didnt secretly wish they could be as beautiful as her. And now this Rabbi had come to town and stirred the people up. Some of her best clients had felt remorse for their lifestyle and had found the courage to say no to their lusts and many of the women were flocking to him simply to sit at his feet and to listen to him. For quite a number of days the whole town was alive and speaking of him, devoted their spare time and even left their work behind to listen to him preach. Sure shed listened to him also. He made a lot of sense and was funny and very intelligent. He had a way of making his points by using common everyday terms and practices and yet there was so much wisdom and depth to what he was saying. Every time she approached and sat at the back there was a commotion and it was the one time in her life when the men looking at her annoyed her and she wished all the eyes of the crowd would get off her and leave her at peace alone at the back to simply listen. As she listened to a number of his discourses it seemed uncanny how as soon as she had sat and made herself invisible to the commotion she had caused at her arrival and got to a place where she was quite comfortable enough to listen without people looking at her, he would suddenly finish off a story mid sentence and start another story about her. Every time she sat down to listen, this Rabbi started to preach as though he was sitting face to face in a room with only her in it and was preaching what he thought she needed to hear. The first time she heard him he quoted the prophet Jeremiah and chapter nine and said that a wise man should not take glory in his wisdom and a strong and powerful man should not take glory in his power, nor a rich man should not take glory in his riches, but the only thing a man should take glory in is that he knows his Father in heaven and understands his Fathers character. This sermon was the first one she had heard. He took the time to go through everything she held important. She was one of the most powerful women in the town and he explained that all power is given by God and he can take the power off a person whenever he chooses. He went on to say it does not matter how strong you are and how many people you can control because even if you command an army you can still have your life taken by one battle or one disease you didnt see coming. Then he said all the wealth in the world, while it may buy your fleeting happiness on earth it does you no good in the eternal hell fire of Hades where many rich people end up. Then he talked about how beauty is only skin deep and true beauty is not something that has an outward appearance but rather it is a hidden thing found in the heart and the qualities of a holy women are much more enduring and wholesome then the prettiest girl in the world. Everything the Rabbi said hit her and cut her like a knife and she could never seem to stay for hours like the others did. She mostly had to get up and leave as she was getting so hurt and cut up by what he was saying that she was going to find herself crying or shouting out at him in anger neither of which she wanted to do in public. Finally the day had come today where she had decided to approach him and worship him and let him know that he had broken through to her and that she now understood that her whole life was meaningless and could he please somehow say something or do something that could give her hope as her life had lost all its joy, the power was no more fun, her money disgusted her and even the taste of food and wine had turned bland. How would he accept her? Would he be harsh and rebuke her for being such an unworthy harlot or would he live up to being that gentle man that she saw playing hide and seek with the children in the marketplace? Was there really a life for a lady like her, could she really one day have purpose and this inner beauty that those holy women she admired had. Could he wash away all her shame and make it clear to the world that there could be new life. Hed healed lepers and they had come back into new life in community and were accepted by the priests and the people and were considered clean and able to go into the synagogue to worship, and he had healed all sorts of people, even his best followers used to be mere fishermen and not any learned Pharisee, surely this man was into the common folk, but would he accept her and declare to her peers that she was clean and a new creation? She almost vomited a few times on the way to the house where she knew he was. It was a very spiritual and devout mans house and she was going to interrupt him during dinner, but even this man liked the way she looked and like to sneak a peek when he thought she wasnt looking. Her hands trembled, sweat beaded on her forehead, her legs were jelly as she pulled the curtain back to enter the room and when she entered the Rabbi stopped speaking as did the whole room stopped listening as they looked up to see her in her finest and most expensive dress, with her finest jewelry and looking the very best she could look but being modest in her dress out of respect.and the Bible picks up the rest of the story Luke 7:36-50 36Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with Him, so He went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, 38and as she stood behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. 39When the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, He would know who is touching Him and what kind of woman she isthat she is a sinner.” 40Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said. 41″Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he cancelled the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” 43Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt cancelled.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said. 44Then He turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgivenfor she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.” 48Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 49The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” 50Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” If this lady were to speak today lets imagine what she would say today to us:I left that house and went skipping down the road with my hair down and with tears of joy in my eyes and the next day I spent a whole day at the feet of Jesus and I suddenly wasnt getting cut with every word its as though every word was food. And speaking of food, food stopped being my idol, my looks became less important to me and knowing the truth of the scriptures and more of Jesus Christs truth became the biggest priority in my life. Jesus made me cry a few times more in later years and I sowed quite a lot of my fortune into the early church and was given a role to play in the redemption of many people in my land. It does not matter what your secret sin is. It does not matter what power your sin has over you and what deficiencies hold you back from walking in the purity and the liberty of full obedience to Jesus Christ. One thing is true, the worse a sinner you are when you meet Jesus, the more you love Him when He accepts you with open arms. I urge you, dont let pride stop you from weeping in your next worship service, take the liberty to fall to your knees in church and weep and confess your sins at your Masters feet. Bring your best oil and anoint the foot of the cross and worship the only man in the world that NEVER lusted after me or any other women. We owe Jesus our whole lives as he freed us from every debt on that cross. Kneel at church and confess your sins at the altar and ask for prayer and to be anointed and set free and Jesus will meet with you just as sure as He met with me!! June 7th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

As with all habits, the playing of Java games on mobile phones have started following certain patterns, which are more or less consistent, among a large cross-section of the general populace. In this article, we try and review some of the more important points. Three different categories of people can be identified in the context of downloading of mobile content in the form of mobile phone games. They include people who never play mobile phone games, people who play some interesting mobile Java games on a casual basis and the third kind who are addicted to mobile phone games. Among these three categories, the third category is that of the serious mobile gaming enthusiasts. They take care to update their handsets from time to time so that they do not miss out on any kind of gaming action; their mobile phones are empowered by capabilities to play a host of the latest mobile phone games. It has also been observed that these people are often not interested in downloading other types of mobile content such as mobile phone ring tones, screen savers, etc. However, they are very much interested in subscription offers for the downloading of mobile phone games. It has been found that mobile phone gamers, both the serious one as well as the casual types, keep a look out for good quality handsets to satisfy their urge for the playing of a host of mobile phone games. They are also involved in downloading a minimum number of games every month; the number of games that are downloaded may vary from person to person, but the frequency of downloading of mobile phone games remains the same. The playing of mobile phone games are also becoming a craze among women. A large percentage of the people playing mobile phone games belong to the fairer sex. Among the different age groups, the young people are more interested in downloading of mobile phone games than the older lot. Now, let us know something about the types of games that are being downloaded. For one, women are attracted to puzzles, and non-violent mobiles phone games that have soft colors, upbeat themes as well as funny characters. As a separate group, women have taken up mobile phone gaming with full enthusiasm and in some areas of the world are playing more than their male counterparts. Young men, on the other hand, are addicted to Java mobile games that involve thrill, daring and which move at a fast pace, such as motor racing. Consumers Beware of Unscrupulous Contractors and Attorneys

June 1st, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Earl Erickson Consumers beware! Did you know that anybody who is interested in being a general contractor in Washington State and has the petty cash of $109.70 for a license and a bond fee of only $12,000.00, is able to work at this professional trade? A specialty contractors bond is only $6,000.00. No knowledge or testing required. Rip-offs are welcome. This means Joe Blow, without any experience–or at best, minimal knowledge, may be hired to build your house. Then Mr. Blow will turn around and hire incompetent sub-contractors or specialty sub-contractors, breach the contract, file bankruptcy, be forgiven in court for the debts they owe at the homeowners expense and cause numerous liens on their property. Then these wannabe contractors are able to recycle their crime and start another business under another name, over and over again. Guess what? Its all legal in Washington State and they know this. This careless practice and fraudulent crime against homeowners and taxpayers are not tolerable in such states as California and Florida. This is another reason that there is so much construction going on in the State of Washington. Its easy-pickings for contractor criminals. The property owner has the burden of proof. They are the victims. Fraud has a different meaning in Washington State. In bankruptcy court, fraud is very hard to prove. If proven against the contractor, the homeowner has a slight chance of seeking a judgment, but collecting that is another challenge. All these crooks have to explain is they went over their heads in expense. The fact is they underestimate the job, usually on purpose. In their trade, the terminology is called low-balling. Theytake draws of money from what the property owner has paid, then fund other projects and dont pay their suppliers bills they have in the victims name. This results with liens on the property owner. The contractors defense in court is explained on innocent ignorance, not intended fraud. They are getting away with this all the time. Except state courts refuse to call it a crime. These crooks are protected by law. Most have hidden assets and they claim that their earthly possessions are leased, such as homes, vehicles, equipment and everything. Their possessions cant be pierced or claimed by victims in court. In most cases these are civil matters. They are dismissed in state courts. In other words, the victim is on their own–no crime, no punishment for contractor crooks. Hiring a lawyer for the great fight is up to the victim. In my case, Im embarrassed to say, I hired an incompetent lawyer who claimed she had all this experience. The truth is she had no knowledge of breach of contract or bankruptcy issues. The truth came out $34,000.00 later. I received nothing in return. She was hired from a law firm who are notorious in hiring recent law school graduates. When I challenged her experience and billing practices, she turned arrogant and defensive and went to court and legally withdrew her representation, leaving me in legal chaos and potential counterclaimslawsuits. I did not no where to turn or what to do. I couldnt believe it–only in Washington State can this happen! All that she did was submit motions and do tons of research that had failure written all over it. I realized research was necessary, but for her, research was everything and experience was nil. The judges were no better. The ignorance, arrogance and incompetence of the general contractor, sub-contractors and lawyer took me for a grand total of over $100,000.00. I was left with no reprisal and had to hire a new lawyer to get me out of this legal and financial mess. What is right with this picture? I got nowhere with my complaints to the Washington State Bar Association and the Attorney Generals office. I am reminded of the presence of the Legislature and their priorities and misguided ethics. As a taxpayer and a registered voter, I feel I have some critical voice of how things are run in this great state. I have lived in Washington State all my fifty- three years. I cant believe this state with all its beauty and graceful environment has gone so far south in its ideals. One would think they could sue the state for allowing crooks to work and be licensed as general and specialty contractors. After all, the state issues the license from the Department of Labor and Industries and they allow them to destroy a persons dreams. The state must own up to their deficiencies and responsibilities and make the licensing and bond process much stricter. It should be mandatory for contractors to be tested to prove their knowledge and abilities concerning their trade. For consumers sake, here are some helpful strategies in which I lost sight of my common sense. Review the contract the contractor has offered. Check their references by calling and especially visiting their prior job sites and former customers. Verify their bond and insurance policies. Inquire if there has been complaints or court-action claims against them. Only hire contractors who are members of the Master Builders Association or Better Business Bureau. Issue only two-party checks made out to supplier and contractor. This protects consumers from having property liens forced on them. Remember that contractor-bonds are not easy to collect for damages. Review the contractors insurance policy. Chances are it will not cover poor workmanship and sub-contractors are almost always untouchable because of tort issues in Washington State. The sub-contractor are protected under the responsibilities of the general contractor, whatever that is worth. Be acquainted with everybody who sets their foot on your property. Write down company names and vehicle license numbers. And if you file a lawsuit and hire an attorney, make double sure the lawyer is competent. Call your state Bar Association to check the status regarding disciplinary actions or complaints against the attorney you choose. There are reliable, capable and honest people who work as contractors and lawyers, but the crooked and incompetent ones have put them few and far between, and that truly is a shame. My chalet-style house has been completed now for three years, but it stood in limbo for seven months in a tangled web of failed inspections and citations. I use to pride myself in the decisions I made in business and investments, but now I am so skeptical of the system and how it works against victims, like myself. My experience was a devastating blow to my confidence and trust. Perhaps readers will join my cause for justice. The rules and laws are too slack and unjust. Just remember wherever you live, in whatever state, please protect yourself and your investment. Be cautious, alert and informative about your decisions when hiring a general contractor or specialty contractor. And it also goes for the attorney you hire. Pass this information and advice to your family and friends, consumers beware of unscrupulous contractors and attorneys. Earl D. Erickson is a born-again consumer specialist. Selling Skin Care, Consumer Report 75% of All Drugs and Cosmetics are Derived from Nature

May 29th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Nanci Holloway-Prince Cosmetic companies like Erno Laszlo, Estee Lauder and Lancome, train their sales associates to sell unsuspecting women hundreds of dollars of unnecessary skin care products. SELLING SKIN CARE, TELLING LIES - 75% of all drugs and cosmetics are derived from nature. One of the lies, which builds the sale, is that the eye area is too frail and delicate for your facial moisturizer. “Only an eye cream will work on the eye area”, another lie. “You must use our cleanser” in order to receive the full benefits of our moisturizer. “You won’t receive the full anti aging benefits if you don’t use the whole system”. All Lies. Try cleaning your skin with baby shampoo, milk and sugar, equal parts. Want to look younger, add cornmeal to the cleanser. Acne a problem, add aspirin. Splash to rinse 10 times with very warm water. Need a toner, use Green Tea or Orange or Aloe Vera Juice. Moisturize with a vitamin e capsule or soy bean oil (vitamin e). For melasma or brown spots, an over the counter fade cream (under $10.00) twice a day after cleansing takes the place of an in office procedure. Erno Laszlo won’t even sell individual items, they insist you use everything from Erno Laszlo, alcohol, mineral oil and petroleum based. The news media won’t tell you that cosmetic companies like Erno Laszlo use, pore clogging petroleum and mineral oil and charge the consumer up to $100 a jar for sugar, castor oil and fragrance. Can you imagine being a writer for a magazine trying to tell the truth about their advertisers skin care products? There is no market for the truth. Cosmetic companies use sugar or glycol acid in anti aging products because sugar penetrates the skin and the skin cell. This means, yes you can take a bath in sugar and you will look younger. Your skin will become more supple looking because the sugar plumps up the skin cells in your skin. If a cosmetic company creates a chemical that penetrates the skin and the skin cell, it would be considered a drug, not a cosmetic and require a doctors prescription. Nature provides aspirin (salicylic acid), derived from a plant, the active ingredient in acne treatment skin care products, from Proactive and Erno Laszlo. The grape seed extract in eye care products from Erno Laszlo and Estee Lauder, is Thompson Seedless Green Grapes and green tea is green tea. How can women spend so much money buying such inferior skin care,,just bad copies of natural ingredients (food). Fruit acid in cosmetics are made from: apples, oranges, grapefruit, berries, all very good for your skin. Cosmetic companies make chemicals that mimic the action of fruit on your face. Honey contains a natural peroxide and is a great skin care treatment for dry skin. Where can a woman go for a true education on her skin, not the department store cosmetic counter, they have lies for the consumer. The media does not protect the consumer against cosmetic companies because they are afraid of offending their advertisers or even their shareholders. What about a book you say that exposes that fact that exfoliation with cornmeal will make your skin look younger and aspirin can replace a product sold only with a prescription. Same problem, who would publish the book, a publisher owned by corporation who owns a skin care company. Where would such a book be advertised? Can you literally rub lines and wrinkes away with a wash cloth and water, yes. This is a very inexpensive treatment for getting rid of “crows feet”. Aloe Vera smells really bad, but boy does it penetrate the skin without an rx. Natural ingredients like milk, sugar and aloe are synthesized preserved with chemicals and mixed into mineral oil and water for $65.00 from Erno Laszlo. The same corporation that owns the skin care company, owns the newspaper, magazine, book publisher and television station. Flawless Makeup: Are You Using the Right Tools?

May 26th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Sheila Dicks Like organizing our closets we must from time to time clean out our makeup cabinets and make sure what we have is still working for us. If you want flawless makeup and professional looking results you must use the correct makeup tools. The right blush brush for example, will make it possible that your blush gives you a perfect glow rather than a harsh streak or blob. Also, the right tools are necessary to do the job correctly to define and conceal. ESSENTIAL TOOLS: Sponge: A sponge makes it possible to get into difficult spots and controls makeup application; used correctly a sponge will give your foundation an even finish. A sponge is great for touch-ups and is less likely to pull on the skin. Buy them in bulk and change them often. Brushes: A good blush brush is soft with bristles that are about 1 inches. Dont use the small, hard brushes that come in compacts because it will be difficult to get a nice even finish. An eye shadow brush should also be soft. Look for a lipstick brush that is retractable. It helps keep the brush clean and in great shape. A blending brush should be about wide and will help blend the different color eye shadows together to create a natural look. Use a brow brush to keep eyebrows under control and give them a smooth look. Your powder brush should be large, soft, firm and fluffy. Eyelash curler: An eyelash curler is a must if you have short, straight eyelashes or just straight eyelashes. An eyelash curler (along with mascara) will give your eyelashes the appearance of being longer. Tweezers: Have tweezers close by to keep your eyebrows well groomed. Well-groomed eyebrows will open the eye. ESSENTIAL PRODUCTS Cleanser: To have radiant skin you must keep it clean. A cleanser that is compatible with your skin type will do that and keep it moisturized. Moisturizer: Moisturizers will keep your face feeling fresh and will help foundation glide on. Choose one that is compatible with your skin type. Exfoliant: Exfoliants do a great job keeping dry patches to a minimum and will get rid of flaky skin. Foundation: Foundations give the skin an even look and will protect it from the elements. You should be able to see your skin through your foundation. It shouldnt look like a mask. Powder: Whether you choose loose powder or a powder compact powder will give your face the final touch, keep your makeup in place and get rid of shine. Mascara: The best mascara brush has wide spaces and does not cause mascara to clump. Only wear waterproof when you plan to get wet and change your mascara every 3 months to avoid it drying out or attracting bacteria. Blush: Blush can be powdered or cream. A cream blush is harder to apply and is best for those with dry skin. A powder blush will go on much easier. Eyebrow Pencil: Use an eyebrow pencil if your eyebrows are thin or to fill in gaps. Choose a color that is a shade lighter than your hair. Eyeliner: Keep the edges rounded for a softer look; when applying make sure the eyeliner is in the lash line. Eye shadow: Powder shadows are easier to apply than creams. Use a matte shadow if you have wrinkles around the eyes and keep eye shadow light. Lip liner: To outline the lips choose a shade that complements your lipstick. Lipstick: Use a shade that complements your skin tone. Unique Advertisement - Shock Value Technique

May 17th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Sharon White Advertisements became a part of our life. They are everywhere and we are so used to them that often we dont even notice them anymore. However, some of the advertisement images capture our attention and stay in minds for a very long time. Advertisements can evoke the wide variety of emotions in people. Every advertisement is different from one another. In this article I will concentrate on the advertisement idea of one of the leading clothing companies- United Colors of Benetton United Colors of Benetton have produced some extraordinary and uniqueadvertisements. Benetton’s originality in their advertisements isunlike any other clothing company. Instead of advertising theirclothes on beautiful female and male models, Benetton uses realpeople, and situations and dilemmas in the real world to get theirname across. Their controversial ads are notorious for the shock value they exhibit.People sometimes cannot believe that a certain advertisement isactually aimed at selling clothes. This “shock value” technique hasrecently been the new trend in 20th century advertising culture. It isa clever tactic that has recently been employed by various companies, agencies, and institutions throughout the world. Benetton’s aim is for the public to see their distinct ads andremember them. They want people to see an advertisement and thinkabout it, discuss it, love it, and even hate it. In their minds, anypublicity is good publicity. They believe that their unique ads willdrive you to their stores, and it does just that. Benetton’s profitsalmost doubled to nearly two-hundred-forty-five million Euros (392million Canadian dollars) in four years (1996-2000). The questionthat lingers on everyone’s mind is how do you make someone remember anad when they are bombarded by hundreds of advertisements daily? Theanswer; Shock them. Unlike normal clothing companies whose aim is toonly sell their clothes, “[Benetton] believes [that they] can do morethan sell products. [They] can broaden minds”. Benetton usesadvertisements featuring people dying of AIDS, dead soldiers, cemeteries, poverty stricken children, etc. Their hope lies within thepublic. They want people to see their advertisements and take it toheart. Just as the Du Maurier cigarette company uses pictures ofdiseased organs on their cigarette packs in hopes of getting people totake action and quit smoking, Benetton uses real life images in theirads to instil their humanitarian cause in the rest of the world. Thesegraphic images are not sugar coated and fancy like advertisements thatother large clothing companies use. Instead they are meant to startleor shock the public and create an image in people’s minds that maycreate concern for the well being of people, animals, and the planet, and at the same time, create a curiosity that would impel someone tovisit their clothing stores and learn more about them. Benetton has a hard time understanding why their advertisements sparkso much controversy. All of their ads feature real life situations.Nothing is made up or fake about their ads. They are not purposely outthere to exploit human suffering. Instead they are trying todemonstrate the extent of the problem. Many of their ads featureissues of multiculturalism, peace, the tragic effects of war, anddisease. Many people are aware of these problems but choose to turntheir heads or forget about them, instead of doing something to helpthe cause. Two specific advertisements that I foundto be very clever and interesting are those that promote the breakingdown of race discrimination. The two ads remind the public that nomatter how we look on the outside, everyone looks the same on theinside; literally. One of these advertisements has a picture of threereal hearts. They are obviously not human hearts, but the viewer ofthe ad gets the idea. On each of the three hearts it says one word;Black, White, and Yellow. As mentioned before, the advertisement hopesto remind and convince the public that although we might lookdifferent on the outside, that on the inside we are the exact same.Benetton tries to promote equality regardless of colour, race, orreligion. The second such advertisement that hopes to communicate andpromote the need for compassion with all other human beings is that ofthree girls. The picture shows the three girls, one of Africandescent, one of Caucasian descent, and the third girl of Orientaldescent, with their heads side by side, sticking out their tongues.Once again, Benetton shows that regardless of the way we look on theoutside, that on the inside we are all the same. All our tongues arethe same colour, and look the same. The same goes with our hearts. Itis these types of advertisements that define Benetton and their cause. They are campaigning for equality. They want people to remember thatwhen it comes down to it, we are all human beings, and that there isno need for hate amongst us. Benetton has made a bold move in theadvertising industry and should at least be commended for trying to dosomething that is very unorthodox. But of course, not everyone seestheir campaign towards progressing humanity in the same way. Manybelieve that “Benetton is trying, through its depiction of the intensesuffering of living things, to evoke a feeling of compassion on thepart of the consumer, and to suggest that it is sympathetic”.Controversy has erupted due to its numerous ads. Some people have seenBenetton’s advertisements and have been outraged but have not takenaction, while others have been more active in taking a stand andensuring Benetton stops publishing their immoral ads. A few ads inparticular have stricken a chord with many of Benetton’s opponents.Opponents of Benetton’s ads have been angered with Benetton forexploiting human suffering. A few advertisements that have gainedrecognition for their degree of controversy are “pictures of awaterfowl stuck in an oil slick, a human body stamped ‘HIV-positiveand child labourers in the Third World–all bearing the slogan,’United Colors of Benetton’. Eight Ways to Control Trade Show Display Costs

May 14th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Dick Wheeler Here are several suggestions to help keep trade show display expenditures in line: 1. Consider renting a trade show booth rather than buying one.Renting a trade show exhibit applies only if you are planning a one time or occasional trade show appearance or if you have a simultaneous trade show in another part of the country that conflicts with your exhibit schedule. It does not make economic sense to rent a trade show display if you plan to exhibit more than three times in a given year. Be sure to rent a booth that will fit into the size of the exhibit space. Renting will save you not only on trade show booth construction costs but also the expense of warehousing your display after the trade show is over. 2. Upgrade your existing trade show booth. If you choose not to rent, you can upgrade your older booth by changing its graphics, relaminating color panels, and redesigning structural elements. This is a much more cost-effective way than starting from scratch. 3. Invest in a pre-owned trade show display. If you do not already have an existing trade show exhibit booth to upgrade, you can find pre-owned trade show exhibits that are greatly reduced from their original cost. Many trade show exhibit houses offer top quality pre-owned exhibits that are well maintained and easily adaptable to new signage, often affording reductions in exhibit design time and construction costs by more than half. You also have options on size, design, scope and price similar to trade show booth rentals with a variety of style and dimension options. Perhaps with little more than a customized graphics upgrade your trade show exhibit can be out the door and on the floor in a matter of weeks. 4. Consider a lightweight trade show exhibit. A lightweight exhibit will reduce operating costs such as freight, drayage, and storage. Select a trade show display that packs easily and is uncomplicated to install and dismantle. A custom modular or custom portable trade show exhibit can have the look of a custom exhibit, while reducing operating costs by 50 to 90 percent. 5. Pack extra supplies. When your installation and dismantle company installs your exhibit at your trade show, youll find that emergency repairs and materials replacements often are costly. So keep a backup supply box filled with items that may need to be replenished at the trade show. Include power cords, tools, light bulbs, Velcro, scissors and duct tape. 6. Plan well in advance. This will help you avoid unnecessary rush charges from not scheduling adequate lead time for the trade show displays graphic design and production requirements. 7. Set up the trade show display during pre-show week days. Avoid costly weekend and overtime labor costs on the trade show floor. Early trade show booth assembly also helps you to avoid last minute glitches that run up the tab. 8. Understand trade show services. You will frequently require supplemental assistance from trade show services at the trade show exhibit hall. These are representatives and union laborers who provide such support services as installation and dismantling, carpeting, furniture, lighting, phones, drayage and security. If you are aware of the nuances of these charges for trade show services and plan in advance you can save money while avoiding numerous pitfalls. Experience is the best teacher in keeping trade show exhibit costs under control. If your display team has limited know-how, tap into the wealth of knowledge available from the staff of a reputable trade show exhibit house. Also do your research on trade show exhibit company websites for industry insider tips. Dick Wheeler is President of Professional Exhibits & Graphics headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Real Estate Marketing — The Importance of Listing Language

May 9th, 2008 by bcspatchmaduri

By Brandon Cornett Mr. and Mrs. Buyer have just seen a listing photo of a house that’s right up their alley. It seems to have the features they want, and it’s within their price range. Now, continuing in the process, they read the details. They read what you’ve written to describe the house. This is when the quality of your listing language either moves them forward, or drops them off. The first parts of the listing are easy to write, and they’re often enough to get a buyer to come out for a visit. Number of bedrooms. Square feet. The basics. But your goal is to get as many interested buyers as possible to come out, which obviously increases the likelihood of a sale. So you have to go beyond the basics. Here are some tips to help you do just that: Do the necessary research. When I’m hired to write about the benefits / qualities of a product or service, I almost always spend more time researching than writing. I never write a single word until I know, with certainty, what’s worth writing about and what’s not. The point is, you can’t write everything about a house in a listing there’s no room for that. So you have to examine the property inside and out to find those things that make it truly unique. You have to dig up the unique selling points. Put the reader in the house. Whenever possible, try to describe the enjoyment that results from a particular feature (as opposed to describing the feature by itself). Note the difference in the examples below. Before: This house has a rear deck with a lake view. After: Enjoy watching sunsets over Jefferson Lake from your screened-in rear deck. Before: The family room features a large brick fireplace. After: The family room’s grand fireplace will keep you cozy during Colorado winters. Don’t underestimate the small stuff. If you’re creating a short, bulleted laundry list of features, be as specific and all-inclusive as possible. The house might have a feature that makes you yawn but makes a buyer perk up: Extra outlets in the media room. Low-maintenance deck material. Wrought-iron gate. Picket fence. Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference to people. Use brand names. Certain brands can add value to a house through name alone. First, you must identify these brand names and make a list of them. This comes from the research we mentioned above. Then it’s simply a matter of weaving them into your property description. Note the difference in the example below: Before: Rear deck After: Rear deck built with low-maintenance Trex material (with transferable lifetime warranty). I’ve exaggerated the contrast between these examples for demonstration purposes. But you get the idea. Conclusion Buyers are looking for more than a house. They also want a home. A house is walls and ceilings. A home is where memories are made. It’s up to you to bring this across with your listing language.
