Loneliness n Depression

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By Monalisa Hyden Everybody’s going out and having funI’m just a fool for staying home and having noneI can’t get over how she set set me free oh lonesome meA bad mistake I’m making by just hanging roundI know that I should have some fun and paint the townA lovesick fool is blind and just can’t see oh lonesome me Oh lonesome me oh lonesome me The lines from the famous song by Don Gibson was engraved on my memory cells when Lucy, a girl from my college hostel would listen to it for long hours sitting alone in her corner of the room and kept on crying silently. She was someone who used to remain depressed and lonely when we, the girls, used to go out and enjoy, were busy acting our age. We tried to include her while we chatted and had fun together, she would remain with us, silently listen to us, keenly observe us but would not comment on anything, give brief answers to our questions, smile awkwardly while we would burst out in loud laughs and giggles on humorous eventand suddenly she would withdraw herself and go and sit alone in the window, or guard her privacy by hiding her face behind a book. We used to discuss among ourselves why was she like this? Why was she depressed and crying most of the time. We knew she was lonely in her personal life, as we never saw her going home during the vacation, no one ever came to meet her, but her financial requirements were fulfilled from an unknown source and she received a big birthday cake on each birthday which she never shared with us and we never saw her eating a bite herself. She would be all the more depressed on her birth day and kept herself behind the closed door in spite of the different types of endeavors of cheering her up. We tried our best but could not help her much except seeing her smiling not more than four five times. After 5 years of leaving college, whenever I listen to this song, it would remind me of Lucy, the lonely melancholic beautywas she a patient of severe depression, or loneliness was her sole problem? We all are victimized by loneliness, realizing at certain point of life that something is missing, we wait for that something to come and fill up the emptiness in us. But some of us suffer loneliness all through their lives. Loneliness is very common factor that leads to depression but which is not given much importance by the psychological theories and studies. Loneliness can be exhausting, painful and degenerating to human emotions. When we are lonely we feel empty from within, and we distort the normal way of thinking, as a result we over-react to the events of life. When our intimacy requirements are not fulfilled, or there is someone in life, and even then, somehow the emotional needs remain unsatisfied, the outcome of such situation is an emotional void. If we can address the problem of loneliness we can increase the potential of better life ahead. But first of all we need to identify the loneliness within us, what exactly is the thing we want from life. We only bring destruction in the course of life by taking random decisions when we fail to determine the missing factor in life. Depression is a facade taken by loneliness. Symptoms are same like withdrawal, anxiety, lack of motivation, feeling a vacuum in the heart etc. and people are treated for depression and the loneliness factor remains unattended and so the depression is never cured from its roots. The dissatisfaction and the emotional void kills us slowly and we lead an aimless life without any drive for achieving anything. When depression can be taken care of by certain antidepressants, and therapies, the hidden loneliness is overlooked and ignored most of the time. As a result the apparent depression-like symptoms continue. Unless the underneath reasons of loneliness are analyzed and treated, the depression-loneliness duo will keep on coming back and the problem will remain in chicken n egg situation. Jewelry and the Art of Selling

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

By David Foard Two of the most frequently asked questions we get at the Online Jewelry Appraisal Center is: “How do I sell an item of Antique or Estate Jewelry?” or…”How much should I ask for it?” Very often people receive an item as a ‘Hand Down’ or ‘Bequest’ after someone has passed away. It may or may not be worth something, or the person ‘Just doesn’t like it’…. So what to do? # RULE 1: Take back control. The Antique Trade in general are a Fine and Trusting lot, but there are always the ‘Shyster’ or ‘Fagin’ characters out there. In this case it’s not Buyer Beware, but Seller Beware… Sometimes the Second-Hand Dealers or Pawn Brokers (all of whom have a great general knowledge on Buying and Selling) may not QUITE know what your particular item is really worth. So the first thing to do is get your item appraised and valued by a qualified gemologist (if there are gemstones involved) and/or a member of the local Valuers association. Your local, TRUSTED Jeweler might be both. It is greatly suggested that the person you obtain a valuation from, is NOT INVOLVED IN THE PURCHASE OF THE ITEM. But a further word of advice is given here too… Let these people know ‘WHAT YOU WANT THE VALUATION FOR’. There are several TYPES of Valuation and all will have a different price on the bottom line. Did you want an Insurance valuation? Did you want to sell the item to a third party? Did you wish to sell the item through an Auction? Did you just want to know what it would fetch? All of these are very valid points, yet all are different. If you are not sure which applies to your particular situation, why not check our very helpfull information section on ‘TYPES OF VALUATIONS’ at the Online Jewelry Appraisal Centre (address shown below). If you don’t want to go to a great expense, you might take advantage of the useful ‘Do it Yourself’ ONLINE Valuation Self Appraisal Kit. At such a low fee (less than the price of a Big Mac and Coke) it’s money well spent. Indeed, if you just purchased something on eBay or Yahoo auctions for example, you might wish to confirm an approximate value by using this easy to use valuation kit. The ‘walk through’ instructions are so easy my 6yr old Granddaughter completed the form in under ten minutes. (She had it all wrong of course) but it was under ten minutes. ‘Just Kidding…’ It couldn’t be simpler. My other Granddaughter (Rachael was eight) did it easy AND correct! So if you recently bought something from a local Dealer, on the Market or at the Antique Fair, why not get it checked. What’s the worst that could happen? You blow some loose change - Not much of a Risk, is it? At this price it’s a Bargain, plus there are many other advantages to having your Jewelry done at the Online Jewelry Appraisal Center. # RULE 2: Pick your Market. What do we mean by this is: Are you in a hurry to Cash something in?Do you have the time to ‘Try, Try again…’ should something NOT sell the first time around? What are the costs involved? How about selling something ‘On Consignment?’ Auction Houses are a great way to sell your Jewelry, but even the best of them have costs. Find out BEFORE you sell. Selling on Consignment is another good method, as you should get more money from the sale than if you sold it directly to an Antique Dealer. BUT IT MIGHT TAKE MORE TIME. Are the Classified Ads in the local paper worth doing? In our experience… NO! Plus you have the extra security problem associated with someone coming to your Home to inspect the goods - ‘And Check out all your other stuff too.’ It’s just not Worth it… There are several other SPECIAL REPORTS available through our eMail-on-Demand subscription box at the website, so please take some time to visit. There is a timely warning on Security issues. It’s good advice, plus there is some great tips on Investing in Jewelry, Insurance guidelines and other notes on selling, Hallmarking tips etc, and they are being added to all the time. And the best bit is they are FREE…. Thank you for taking the time to read this special report. If you thought it interesting, useful or found it helped you in any way I would appreciate your comments via email at the address shown below. This is my personal email address and I read every comment - good or bad. Alternatively: why not pass it on to a friend. I’m sure you can think of someone who might benefit from this useful information. Treat it as doing me a big favor. I will certainly appreciate it. regards and please watch the road. How Does Phentermine Work? Learn Pros & Cons Of Phentermine For Weight Loss

Monday, January 28th, 2008

By Ian Mason Phentermine, like many other prescription drugs, works with chemicals called neurotransmitters in your brain. It actually stimulates your neuron bundles to release a particular group of neurotransmitters known as catecholamines, these include dopamine, epinephrine (formally known as adrenalin), and norepinephrine (noradrenalin). These neurotransmitters signal a fight or flight response in your body which, in turn, puts a halt to the hunger signal. As a result, you lose your appetite because your brain doesnt receive the hunger message. This drop in appetite is perhaps due to phentermines affects on leptin levels in the brain. It is theorized that phentermine can raise levels of leptin which signal satiety. It is also theorized that increased levels of the catecholamines are partially responsible for halting another chemical messenger know as neuropeptide Y. This chemical initiates eating, decreases energy expenditure, and increases fat storage. What’s a Neurotransmitter, anyway? Neurotransmitters are chemicals in your nervous system and brain. They act as messengers, relaying electrical messages between the cells (neurons) of the nervous system or brain. Some people have naturally low levels of neurotransmitters. This condition may lead to diseases such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and obesity, and others. Prescription drugs work by moving neurotransmitters from one place to another, but do nothing to increase the supply of neurotransmitters in the nervous system or brain. These drugs trick your brain into thinking there are more neurotransmitters than there actually are. Because of this, your brain slows down the production of neurotransmitters. How Can I Improve The Benefits Of Phentermine? To learn more about how to help your body produce higher amounts of neurotransmitters, see the Phentermine tolerance report I have compiled: Phentermine Tolerance Report If anyone has anything to add about how Phentermine works, please do! Criminal Records Online

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

By Jennifer Bailey For the past few years, almost all state and country governments have started making criminal records available to the public online via the Internet. Now, the Internet has become an open source of information that offers manifold avenues for searching information. So any private citizen or any organization can avail of the criminal records online whatever they want, usually within two to ten business days. The Pacific Information Resources site has a list of online criminal records. Some of these sites like the Oklahoma site provide information about criminal records free of charge. However some of these sites charge for providing the accessibility of the records. Most government agencies now make their records available online as they think that they can make money by selling the records. The charges of websites vary from one another depending on the level and amount of information and the kind of information. So one has to shop around for deciding the best site that suits ones requirements and capability to pay the charges. While the majority of jurisdictions have computerized their criminal records, most of them now do not allow off-site access of criminal records. However, in many online criminal records the only information available is the name of defendant, case number, and date. Sometimes the penal code violations and disposition may not be listed in the online records for the purpose of providing privacy and protection to the witnesses involved. When compared to other off-line sources of retrieving information about criminal records, online search is the somewhat a least cost effective way. However, these results can be retrieved more quickly than those of other sources. There is some risk involving in the online accessibility of criminal records. Almost all types of people are using Internet for browsing information. In such a context, if any errors are there in the online criminal records, they will seriously effect the reputation of the person involved. Criminal Records provides detailed information about criminal records, criminal records online, and more. Criminal Records is affiliated with Bail Bond Agents. Spice It Up with Salsa

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

By Eric Vinje People have been spicing up their meals with salsa for hundreds of years. In fact, salsa, the condiment, not the dance, has been around for centuries and can be traced back to the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas of present-day Mexico. In the United States, salsa, which means “sauce” in Spanish, has outsold ketchup since the 1990’s. And there are just as many variations of salsa, if not more, as there are ways to make a good spaghetti sauce. For example, most American salsas contain tomato. But the tomato in a homemade salsa can be fresh and raw, cooked or even tomato paste. It’s up to the maker. (Originally salsas from Mexico didn’t contain tomatoes and mainly used chiles, tomatillos and ricado, a blend of spices.) Although hot peppers predominate, salsas can also be spiced up with ingredients such as cilantro, cumin and oregano. Some folks even add garlic to their salsas. Beans are another healthy variation to the salsa mix. Black beans tend to be the bean of choice for salsa makers because of their texture and taste. They are low in fat and also contain protein and fiber. A final advantage to beans: they “mellow out” the heat from the peppers added to salsas, particularly hotter chile peppers such as habanero, serrano or even jalapeno. Sweet salsa ingredients can include mango, passion fruit, papaya, raspberries, as well as lemon, lime, orange and chiles. Some people add plantains or even nuts. Pretty much any fresh sauce can be a salsa. The major traditional types of salsa include: salsa cruda, picante, salsa fresca, salsa rojo and salsa verde. Salsa cruda means uncooked and is made from finely chopped uncooked ingredients such as raw tomato, hot chiles, peppers, onion and cilantro. Picante means “hot and spicy,” and is usually just a thinner sauce than your typical salsa cruda. Salsa fresca means “fresh sauce” and is your typical American salsa. It’s usually a mixture of chopped tomatoes, chiles and onions. Salsa rojo literally means “red sauce” and its foundation is the tomato. Salsa verde means “green sauce” and it is typically made from tomatillos, which are green. (For the record, tomatillo is not a tomato, in spite of its name, but instead is a reportedly a relative of the gooseberry. It is a tart, green fruit with a papery husk. It resembles a green, unripe tomato in appearance.) Our offerings at Cosmic Chile show how many different kinds of salsa exist. Offerings range from a traditional salsa like Jose Goldstein’s XXX Garlic, made out of habanero peppers and plenty of fresh garlic, to something more exotic like Thai Jungle Salsa, which contains three types of thai chiles, lemon and soy sauce. Salsa is not only fun, it’s healthy. Their major ingredients are vegetables which are low in calories, rich in vitamins and are low fat. They are simple to prepare and an easy way to dress up grilled chicken, fish, meat or pork for a quick meal during the week. Salsa is also a great snack when paired with chips. So next time you run out of something to have for a quick, but fun dinner during the week, try adding a little salsa to your entree. This article was written by Eric Vinje of Cosmic Chile. Planning a Wedding, Renewal of Vows, or Baby Naming Ceremony at Home? What to Look Out For

Friday, January 25th, 2008

By Jennifer Cram There are many benefits to having your wedding, renewal of vows, baby naming or other ceremony at home. The obvious ones are that there is no venue hire, you dont have to work around other bookings, you are not restricted as far as access for setting up, nor hurried to finish up and get out at a set time. In addition, you are on familiar territory, and all your normal domestic facilities are conveniently to hand. But a ceremony at home can also turn into a chaotic mess, and there can be health and safety issues if you dont follow a few simple guidelines which will ensure you avoid the pitfalls: Right Sizing Before you make a single other decision, you need to work out what the maximum number of people (not just guests) your home can accommodate. And this all comes down to one simple thing people divided by toilets. The average person goes to the toilet once every three hours. The average toilet to guests ratio that venues work on is that you need one toilet for every 70 people. But that is presuming that toilets visits are spread evenly, which is never the case. Particularly if people have traveled some distance, you could get a queue before the ceremony starts, and then another peak some 2-3 hours later. If there will be children, senior citizens, or pregnant women on your guest list you can expect more frequent comfort stops will be required. In my experience, for a home ceremony, no more than 35 people per toilet is workable. Regardless of the number of toilets available, however, the maximum number of guests that can be accommodated to ensure a successful ceremony is dictated by the maximum number of people that can be accommodated by the inside room or covered space that you would use in case of bad weather. Arrival and introduction of guests If you are planning on making an entrance, delegate someone to meet and greet guests as they arrive. If there are to be a large number of guests, it may be appropriate to delegate this task to several people. Ensure that someone is delegated to meet and greet your celebrant and that there is a quiet space available so the celebrant can brief participants if there hasnt been a rehearsal or participants havent been able to make the rehearsal. The Ceremony Space There are three things to consider when deciding where in your home or garden to hold the ceremony The Space Layout is important - your guests should be close enough to where you and the celebrant will be standing to form an intimate grouping and ensure that everyone hears and sees the ceremony. There needs to be an attractive backdrop, and guests should not be squinting into the sun. Backlit photographs will mean that most of them will show the ceremony participants in silhouette, and the full detail of the ceremony wont be captured. The layout needs to be in place before the guests arrive. Noise Houses and gardens can be quite noisy places. Outside ceremonies are subject to all manner of external noise disturbances such as aircraft, animals, lawnmowers etc. If holding your ceremony during the day time, you might consider asking your neighbors to not use their lawnmowers or power tools for the period of the ceremony (allow a little leeway either side). If noise is likely to disturb the ceremony, it may be more appropriate to hold the ceremony indoors, but noise can also be a problem indoors. While you might have become so accustomed to your noisy air conditioner or fridge the video camera is going to pick it all up if the ceremony space is too close to the noise source. Weather Consider both hot and inclement weather. There should be a suitable space either inside or under cover in case bad weather prevents holding the ceremony outside. Severe sunburn can occur in a very short time, and heat and sun can cause dehydration in children and older guests, particularly at the hottest time of the day so it is best to position everyone in the shade for a daytime ceremony. To guard against dehydration think about making sure everyone has water or other non-alcoholic liquid as they arrive. Animals and Children Any domestic animals that could interfere with the ceremony, or become unsettled by the guests, should be shut away or put in the kennels for the day. Small children can find it difficult to be quiet and listen to the ceremony. If there are to be large numbers of small children attending you may find it useful to delegate someone to take care of them away from the ceremony space. Provision of play leaders or even a jumping castle has been very successful in my experience, but something as simple as a child-friendly video and a sitter works well too. Health and Safety There are some basic safety rules that should be followed: Entrances and exits to the property and to the ceremony space should be clear and safe to use. Garden ponds and pools are a potential hazard for young children and thus access to them should be made safe. Any sort of construction in your garden, whether temporary, such as a hired marquee, or permanent, such as a deck or gazebo, should be well erected, properly secured and safe. Outside electrical equipment, for example sound equipment, must be safe. There should be no trailing leads, wires or cables. Leads and cables should be kept well away from walkway areas, and firmly taped down.Insurance For your own piece of mind make sure that your domestic insurance policy covers third party liability for visitors. Minding Your Emotional Health

By Emma Sanford Relaxation With Ylang Ylang Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil. Ylang Ylang is a wonderful therapeutic-grade essential oil to use to bring about a sense of calm and relaxation. It can be helpful for reducing feelings of tension, anger and irritability. It might even make you feel a little bit more romantic. The sweet-smelling flowers have long been used in Indonesia to decorate a new couple’s marriage bed. Ylang Ylang oil is often used in men’s colognes for a different floral fragrance than rose, which is commonly used in women’s perfumes. Ylang Ylang can be used as a therapeutic-grade essential oil topically or internally. It usually does not need to be diluted when used externally, as it will only cause irritation to those with very sensitive skin, and is actually helpful for treating skin irritation. When taken internally, a drop should be added to four ounces of liquid such as rice or soy milk before consuming. Ylang Ylang oil is a great treatment for stress and is wonderful to combine with other stress-reducing therapeutic-grade essential oils like lavender to create a soothing massage oil. Even if you don’t have someone around who can give you a massage, you can rub the oil into your hands or temples and neck to receive the peaceful effects of the oil. Another good external use of Ylang Ylang is as a hair treatment. Using Ylang Ylang to produce more luxuriant, shiny hair has been popular in Asia for a long time. The oil can be applied directly to the hair or added to an oil that is massaged into the hair, allowed to sit for a while and then rinsed off. You can also add a drop to your hair brush before brushing your hair to get the benefits all the time. Some people say that Ylang Ylang may also be helpful in growing hair or treating dandruff. Taken internally, Ylang Ylang therapeutic-grade essential oil is said to reduce high blood pressure, calm rapid breathing and rapid heartbeat, and perhaps heal intestinal problems. Excessive use of Ylang Ylang can cause headaches, but there are few other known side effects of using the oil. It is considered safe for all people over the age of 2. While using Ylang Ylang therapeutic-grade essential oil to help you relax is probably the most popular use for the oil, it’s also a great treatment for your hair and can help calm your body inside and out. It’s a great oil to have on hand if you like giving or receiving massages, and is a wonderful drug-free way to bring a little peace and calm into your life. Always wash your hands before and after the use of therapeutic-grade essential oils and avoid contact with your eyes. Dating - When Your Body Behaves Wrong

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

By Sebanti Ghosh When you are all set to go on a date, here are a few guidelines to prevent you show wrong body language that can turn your partner off. We shall talk about general mistakes people commit on dates. First rules is, do not display that you have got anxiety. We shall tell you how your body will try to reveal it even if you do not want to show it. People generally shred napkins, foolishly sit on hands , and start playing with anything they get like their cell phone. Feeling a bit nervous on your date is quite natural. That means you have got the flow of energy. That is a good thing. You just need to learn how to manage this flow of energy. If you are looking quite nervous, you do not have to reveal it at any cost. Be calm, take deep breath. Once you start feeling somewhat comfortable, your fear will go away and that energy level will help you a lot. Another important thing is, never put your finger in your mouth. Some people have the very bad habit of doing it when they get nervous. When you feel nervous, try to feel relaxed and let her talk more. Pay attention to what she says. This is the best part about the girls; you can sit with them without speaking. All you need to do is, listen to them, and here you have cast your magic. Hydroponic Gardens Are Great For Apartments

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

By Allison Agnock Perhaps you love to garden but are frustrated because you live in one of the upper floors of a high-rise apartment building. The biggest hurdle to overcome is the fact that you have no soil in which to grow plants, and lugging bagged soil up to your apartment would be no easy task. There is, however, an easy way to garden in an apartment successfully, and that is through the use of hydroponic gardening. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. You can start with a small homemade automated hydroponic growing system that can fit on a windowsill, and move up to a larger system if space permits. One of the best reasons to consider growing plants in your apartment hydroponically is that this type of system is much easier to get set up than hauling heavy containers and soil up several flights, and the end result is fresh food for your family. To get started with a hydroponic garden in an apartment, you will need to know that there are two basic systems you can choose from: water based and media based. Medium is not soil, but instead could include composted bark, gravel, peat moss, perlite or vermiculite. Also, if you select an active system it will need electronic timers and pumps to make it function well, whereas a passive system doesn’t rely on pumps and instead uses a wicking agent for the roots of the plants to access the nutrients. Because the plants are grown in water, they receive no nutrients from the soil as they ordinarily would. Instead, in hydroponic plant gardening the gardener supplies the plants with nutrients by applying a nutrient solution to the roots via distilled water. The big three nutrients that plants need are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. There are other nutrients, called macronutrients and micronutrients, that the plants will need as well and will need to be added to the nutrient solution. Macronutrients are needed in greater amounts, and micronutrients in smaller amounts, but all are needed for plants to thrive. One of the benefits to growing plants in a hydroponic manner is that they are less bothered from pests and diseases. Many plant pests live in the soil, so when you eliminate the soil you often get rid of the pest’s habitat. Hydroponic plant propagation can also be accomplished without using a great deal of pesticides Another reason why this style of gardening is popular is it will produce more food than you could grow in the same amount of soil. You can grow the food in a spot where there is no soil at all, namely, your apartment. So have fun gardening and produce some great-tasting food with hydroponic plant gardening. Weight Loss, How Really Important It Is?

Monday, January 21st, 2008

By Jean Lam Having an overweight problem is not only unaesthetic, it is also a problem that may hamper your self confidence and that may place you under a lot of health risks. For years people have thought that suffering from an incapability of losing weight was a problem related only to the body of the victim, making the person who experiences this, to suffer from possible heart attacks and other health problems; however it has been recently shown that overweight may also develop into a serious mind problem. People with overweight that do not follow a weight loss procedure tend to suffer from depressions and a severe reduction to their self esteem, which may later translate into social problems and isolation desires. That is why weight loss is of extreme importance if you truly want to attain a healthy way of life; however losing weight is not easy, as you probably know by now, diets and exercise routines are often tedious and hard to follow. But it is very important that you find within yourself the necessary strength to follow these routines; it has been shown that people with overweight that lose even 10 pounds have far more chances of evading a possible health problem than those who never try for more than a week. Weight loss becomes much more important if anyone in your family suffers from chronic heart problems, because most of those problems are passed through consequent generations, and suffering from overweight is just an exponential factor that may trigger those problems on you. Weight loss is also very important if either your cholesterol or sugar levels are above the recommended degrees, because if they are, then you are a very likely candidate to suffer from heart attacks as well. Diabetes is also one of the most important factors why people should deeply consider following a weight loss procedure; if you happen to be apple shaped (this is, larger from your stomach than on the rest of your body), then the chances of suffering from diabetes are highly increased, and a weight loss procedure might be the only method you have at your disposal for avoiding this dreadful problem. Always remember that following a weight loss procedure is not only important to boost your appearance and thus your self confidence, it is also very important if you want to live a healthier life, and if you love your body as much as you love the rest of yourself.
